なんと、英語だけでなく、日本語でも書いてくれました〜！

友達の結婚式に呼ばれて、福岡に行きました。

出発日の数日前から、台風のことをニュースで聞いたが、

まさか僕の旅行の日程にまで影響を与えるとは思っていなかった！

一日遅れて、福岡に着きました。予定が突然変わったし、

集合場所に決めたホテル前に一時間も遅れて来たにもかかわらず、

Mさんが笑顔で迎えてくれました。

 

そして、博多ガイド開始！

 

まず、せっかくの日本旅行なので、櫛田神社に連れてもらいました。

門前や手水所といった和風の空間を楽しませてもらって、

商店街へ向かいました。本屋やまんだらけに行き、小説や漫画を買いました。

 

朝から何も食べていないのに気が付いたら、天神の立ち食いに行きました。

食事しながら会話で盛り上がりました！

そして、隣に居合わせた女性二人もジョインして、

台風の影響で会えなかったTさんもなんと娘も登場しました！

皆さんがとても優しくて、数年前からの付き合いの気がしました！

閉店まで話し合い、店を出てそれぞれの帰り道に出向きました。

ずっと一日大変お世話になりました！

 

ツアバスのような観光的なのよりも、友達と一緒にぶらぶらするのが好きなので、

今回の旅行は最高だった！Mが本当に優しくて、友達扱いしてくれました！

あまりにも突然のお願いに応えたし、博多の歴史も教えてくれたし、

今度福岡に行く時、また会えるのを楽しみにしています。

 

三年前から日本語を勉強しはじめて、最近勉強する気はちょっと弱まったが、

福岡に行って、ニューヨークに帰ったら「満喫しちゃだめ！勉強しよっ！」

と思い、毎日勉強しています。皆さんのおかげですよ！

 

 

Being only my 2^nd time going to Fukuoka,

I’m by no means comfortable traveling alone in Hakata.

However, thanks to M, I had an amazing introduction to Hakata, one that will never be forgotten. 

I was invited to a friend’s wedding reception.

Arriving a day late due to a passing typhoon

(and an hour late due to my sense of direction), I felt horrible.

Despite the sudden change of plans, M met me with one of the widest smiles

I’ve seen on a face in a while! Meeting in front of my hotel next to Hakata Station,

we walked to Kushida Shrine. He gave me an introduction to the history of

the shrine and taught me how to pray at the shrine.

Starting the trip with a visit to a shrine, I could take in the native Japanese scenery,

a welcome breath of fresh air! 

Moving on from the shrine, we chatted while heading towards the shopping district.

We went to a bookstore, a used manga book store, and a liquor shop.

I bought almost everything I was looking for in one go! Getting hungry,

we went to a small restaurant where I tasted some local dishes,

like pigs feet! The dumplings were interesting.

Dumplings wrapped up in aburaage (deep-fried tofu)…such a novel idea!

Being in a part of Japan known for their alcohol, of course I enjoyed

some shochu and Japanese alcohol! We were joined by two females

that were standing next to us and later Chihomi came with her daughter!

We talked nonstop until the store closed! We said our goodbye and went

our separate ways, a bittersweet goodbye.

Returning to the hotel, I was overcome with gratefulness! It seemed all too easy!

Despite meeting everyone for the first time,

it felt like I was meeting some old high school friends!

This is the reason why I don’t like tour buses.

Never have I experienced such oneness and closeness with an organized tour service.

I was treated as a friend, from the first smile in front of the hotel up

until the last one in the train station.

Next time I’m in Fukuoka, I definitely plan on meeting everyone again!

Until then, I’ll be waiting in NYC, studying Japanese every day!

I hate goodbyes, so I’ll see everyone soon!
